An Introduction

History of Jaipur

There is a lot to know about this city but first you should be aware of the history of this grand city. The city of Jaipur was founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II who used to live in the Amber fort before shifting to Jaipur which is 11 kms from Amber. Jaipur was ruled by the Kachhwaha Rajput clan. The thoughtful King hired a specialist architect whose name was Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, who designed the city according to the Hindu treatise called the Vaastu shastra.

Amer Fort

This majestic fort of Jaipur is a World Heritage Site and is built with yellow sandstone and marble. The splendid and huge fort was the residence of the Kachhwaha rulers of Amer and Jaipur. The buildings in the complex are constructed at four different levels. Amer Fort is one of the grandest monuments in Jaipur and is also the most frequented tourist spot in Jaipur.

Jal Mahal

Situated in the middle of the 300 acres large Man Sagar Lake, the Jal Mahal was initially a hunting lodge of the royal elite of Jaipur. In the 18th century the palace and the lake were both enlarged and now this monument is a startling one in Jaipur. It looks even more beautiful in the evening when its image reflects on the lake waters with thousands of lighted lamps.

Hawa Mahal

The Hawa Mahal, translated as ‘Wind Palace’ is a marvelous construction with 953 windows, the monument is a five storied building with a height of 15 meters and is painted in pink color. The design was given by Ustad Lal Chand in the 18th century when this monument was built.

Jaigarh Fort

Built by King Jai Singh II as a place to keep an eye on the unwanted intruders in the Amber Fort, the Jaigarh Fort overlooks the Amer Fort and here this is where the famous giant cannon of that time called Jaivana Cannon has been kept. This red sandstone monument has a number of attractions inside the complex including a museum of the royal items.

Nahargarh Fort

It is often called a sister monument of the Amer Fort and Jaigarh Fort since it formed the defense wall of the city along with the other two. The fort overlooks the Maota Lake and the city of Jaipur is a famous hangout in Jaipur.

Birla Temple

The white marble temple was built by the prestigious Birla Family of India, the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and his consort Goddess Laxmi. Surrounded with beautiful gardens and marvelous architecture with multiple sanctums, the temple is a Must See Places in Jaipur.

Albert Hall Museum

The Indo-Saracenic structure was built to welcome the Prince Albert of Great Britain. It now serves as a historic museum of the city and is also known with the name of Central Museum of Jaipur. Jantar Mantar
