History of Udaipur

City Palace

The most popular tourist attraction in Udaipur is City Palace. The residence of the present royal Family of Udaipur, it is the most frequented Palace in Udaipur and is ranked the best in India. The City Palace has actually earned this title. The limestone and marble monument is situated on the eastern bank of Lake Pichhola. It was built by Maharana Udai Singh II who shifted his capital from Chittorgarh to Udaipur.

Lake Palace

The 18th century palace which is now owned by the Taj Group of Hotels is situated in the Lake Pichhola, on the Pichhola Island. The hotel is one of the most luxurious hotels in India and its views from the periphery of the lake are astounding and enchanting.

Monsoon Palace

The flawless white marble beauty, the monsoon palace was built in 1884 by Maharana Sajjan Singh when there was need of good monsoons for irrigation. It was built at a mountain’s peak from where the whole city and the sky would be clearly visible for making close predictions.

Moti Magri

It is a small garden built over the pearl hill near Lake Fateh Sagar, it is a memorial built in memory of the great ruler of Mewar Maharana Pratap Singh. It has a bronze statue with Maharana sitting on his favorite horse named Chetak.

Shilpgram

The famous living museum of Udaipur is spread in acres of land and features the articles of everyday household items that are used in the Rajasthani culture. The village showcases the wood, metal, textile, terracotta, pottery and other different kinds of crafted materials.

Lake Fateh Sagar

The famous Fateh Sagar Lake is a partially manmade lake that was designed for the landscape development of the city. It has three small islands in the middle of it which have different tourist attractions as well.
